The European Commission has unveiled five new proposals aimed at tackling the growing challenge of illegal immigration. The plans focus on strengthening border controls, improving cooperation between member states, and enhancing legal pathways for migrants.
The proposals include the deployment of advanced surveillance technology along external borders, increased funding for frontline agencies, and the creation of a centralized database to track migration flows. The Commission also plans to expand the number of legal work permits available to non-EU nationals, particularly in sectors facing labor shortages.
This initiative comes amid rising migration pressures, with reports indicating a 20% increase in unauthorized arrivals compared to the previous year. The Commission has emphasized the need for a coordinated approach, citing the importance of balancing security with humanitarian concerns. The new measures are expected to be presented to the European Parliament in early March for approval.
