Bangladesh has called for the adoption of a national AI policy framework at a conference hosted by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and the Bangladesh Institute of Information and Communication Technology (BIIGF). The event, held in Dhaka, brought together government officials, technology experts, and industry leaders to discuss the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
The conference focused on the need for a regulatory framework to ensure responsible AI development and deployment. Speakers emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and public trust in AI systems. A draft policy document was presented, outlining guidelines for data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and the prevention of bias in AI applications.
This initiative follows growing global concerns about the ethical implications of AI. Bangladesh aims to align its national strategy with international standards while addressing local challenges such as digital inequality and cybersecurity risks. The policy is expected to be finalized by the end of 2026, with implementation beginning in early 2027.
The push for ethical AI comes amid increasing investment in the technology sector. Bangladesh has seen rapid growth in AI-driven services, from smart agriculture to healthcare diagnostics. However, experts warn that without proper oversight, these advancements could exacerbate social and economic disparities.
The conference marked a significant step toward establishing a legal and ethical foundation for AI in Bangladesh. It also highlighted the country’s commitment to balancing innovation with the protection of citizens’ rights in the digital age.
