Sajek, a popular tourist destination in Bangladesh, has opened to visitors for the Durga Puja festival, which is celebrated across the country. The area, known for its scenic beauty and cultural significance, will remain accessible to tourists until October 21.
The decision to open Sajek to tourists follows the government’s announcement to resume cultural and religious activities amid ongoing public health protocols. Local authorities have implemented measures to ensure visitor safety, including restricted entry points and health checks.
This marks a return to normalcy for the region, which had seen a decline in tourism due to pandemic-related restrictions. The festival, a key event in Bengali culture, typically draws large crowds, but this year’s attendance is expected to be lower due to health guidelines.
Sajek, located in the northern Rangpur division, is a major attraction for its natural landscapes and historical sites. The area is also known for its tea plantations and the Sajek Valley, which offers panoramic views.
The reopening of Sajek comes as other parts of Bangladesh gradually ease restrictions, allowing for a controlled return of tourism. Officials have emphasized the importance of balancing cultural celebrations with public health considerations.
