A customs officer at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport discovered 1 kilogram of gold during a routine inspection, valued at approximately 200 million Bangladesh taka. The gold was found among luggage belonging to a passenger. The incident occurred on October 2, 2026.

The seized gold was part of a larger consignment that had been declared as personal belongings. Officials confirmed that the gold was not declared and was hidden within the luggage. The passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, was detained for further investigation.

This is the second such incident this year at the airport. In May 2026, a similar case involved the discovery of 500 grams of gold. Authorities have since increased security measures and are conducting more frequent inspections.

The discovery highlights ongoing challenges in preventing smuggling of high-value items through international airports. Officials are now working with law enforcement to trace the source of the gold and determine its legal status. The case is under review by the customs department.
